Drawing gastronomy map of Monopoli means to journey from the country to the sea discovering succulent flavors of the Mediterranean that take care of our forefathers’ tradition.
Dry-stone walls, centuries-old olive tree groves and white manor farms: these are the elements of country that in summertime booms in the richness of its ripe and wholesome fruits such as cherries, figs and “barattieri”, or tomatoes, goods to make tomato sauce or also to dry in the sun and to use as a conserve for the winter.
In the alleys of the historical centre as well as in the “borgo murattiano” it’s easy to smell the scent of the sea. Arrived at the port, dominated by walls of Carlo V Castle, it’s possible to find people waiting for the sunset, curious to see fishing boats or little “gozzi” coming with their catch of the day: sardines, anchovies and mackerels, spangles, “sbarroni”, octopus and squids, fit to be grilled or cooked in the crock.
Only scenery in this corner of Apulia where the beauty of places mixed with flavours gives unforgettable emotions to its visitors.
